Rimaan’s Story
Rimaan’s mother tells us their story:
Rimaan–our first born– is 3 years old and a special child. He was born after a perfect pregnancy but not so perfect birth. He had his umbilical cord around his neck and was delivered via emergency c-section. His heartrate was dropping and they had to save him and his mother. We had a rough start with him, but he was a joy to us. He never cried, he was a perfect beautiful baby.
Rimaan’s struggle started between 2 to 3 months of age where he would throw up non stop and could not retain his meals. It was “just reflux which infants outgrow”, we were told. But later on, we knew he was suffering with severe GERD, throwing up numerous times a day. Rimaan grew, but was not developing. He slowly started missing his milestones and was constantly throwing up.
He looked perfect and best of all was his smile. Rimaan today is unable to have a normal life, he cannot eat regular food, he suffers from severe GERD, Hypotonia (low muscle tone), Dysphagia(inability to swallow), autoimmune disorder, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, leaky gut syndrome, chronic infections, chronic fatigue syndrome, sensory integration disorder(SID), apraxia, numerous chemical senstivities, allergies and his latest MRI showed lack of activity in some parts of his brain. Rimaan has difficulty learning and communicating. He also has a clinical diagnosis of Pervasive Development Disorder, (which is just a label) but inside of him his body is suffering because his body doesn’t know to function normally.
With numerous biomedical intervention, things are slowly starting to turn around, we are going back to heaven and earth to try everything that can make him recover. We know he will recover !!
Rimaan on a typical day takes 40 different supplements , B12 shots, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, physical therapy, cranial therapy, speech therapy and behavoiral therapy that will teach his body to work normally. He works harder than any grown up. We once were worried that Rimaan would never walk but today he can run, thanks to the numerous interventions and he is slowly learning to talk. Inspite of going through all this, he will still smile and we do everything we can to make his every moment worthwhile.
He is a trooper, he is our hero.
Rimaan has been robbed of his childhood but we want to make sure that each minute of his life is filled with happiness. We have no right to grieve because more than us, Rimaan is suffering, so we try to make the best of what we have, we try and live like a normal family and love our child more than anything else. We have channeled all our positive energies to get Rimaan all the treatment and therapies he needs. Yes, Rimaan has taught us to smile in a different way, he has taught us to slow down, he has taught us patience and love, to be unselfish and happy and not to take anything for granted ever!
There are numerous promising treatments that we want to pursue in recovering Rimaan, one of them being HBOT that will deliver 100% pure oxygen to Rimaan’s body and brain, this will help heal his body. The cost of a hyberbaric chamber is $17,000.
The other treatment is Stem cell therapy where we will inject stem cells into Rimaan’s spine. Stems cell have the ability to regenerate new cells similar to the damaged cells. This is a promising treatment that has helped many children recover but unfortunately this treatment is available only in Costa Rica and Germany. Cost of this treatment is $75,000 .
Between Rimaan’s biomedical costs, it breaks our heart that we simply cannot not afford these treatments that we know will help him recover. But we are not going to stop , we are going to help Rimaan so that he can be a child.
Can you help Rimaan and his family? Please donate what you can.
